DanTrials was founded in June 2008 in order to complete a management buyout of a phase I clinic in Copenhagen held by Cyncron.
In 2010 DanTrials moved to Copenhagen University Hospital, Bispebjerg where all Clinical Pharmacology of The Capital Region of Denmark (Danish: Region Hovedstaden) has now been consolidated.
Today, DanTrials is the only commercial clinical pharmacology research unit in Denmark performing clinical studies for the bio/pharmaceutical industry.

Our key staff comprises Chief Clinical Research Physician Jesper Sonne, who is responsible for all medical matters and physicians employed at DanTrials, Chief Clinical Research Nurse Annedorte Friberg, who is responsible for nurses employed at DanTrials and CEO Torben Balchen who is responsible for all project managment related matters.
- Jesper Sonne, MD, DMSc,is a clinical pharmacologist and gastroenterologist by training and has been working with the practical conduct of phase I and II studies since 2002. Jesper Sonne has more than 20 years of clinical experience and also consults for the Danish Medicines Agency.
- Annedorte Friberg, RN has also more than 20 years of clinical experience from various positions, including several with managerial responsibilities, in the Danish public health care system. Annedorte Friberg joined DanTrials at the start of the company in summer 2008 and was employeed in another phase I unit before that.
- Torben Balchen, MSc is the CEO of DanTrials and works as project manager/study coordinator. Torben is very experienced in protocol writing, submissions to regulatory authorities, pharmacokinetic analyses, data evaluation and reporting.
In addition, our team comprise a number of physicians, nurses, and pharmacists with several years of experience of conducting clinical trials employed on a contract basis.

Our board consists of:
- Benny Hofmann, chairman of the board, is the former CFO of one of the largest banks in Denmark, FIH Erhvervsbank which specialises in lending to Danish corporates. Currently Benny Hofmann is the CEO of DataVision and, in addition, board member of Eik Bank and partner in Senior Managment.
- Carsten Sennov is Managing Partner in the management consulting company SennovPartners and CEO of Good Adventures Publishing. Carsten Sennov has a strong background in management, business development and sales & marketing and has previosuly held positions as Deputy CEO & VP for Capgemini Denmark; Operations Director in Gartner AsiaPacific; and Executive in Residence in Vækstfonden, which is a state investment fund.
- Torben Balchen, CEO and founder of DanTrials, has been working with early clinical development for almost 15 years: the first 10 years in Ferring Pharmaceuticals, latest globally responsible for the planning and conduct of Phase I/IIa studies as Directorof Clinical Pharmacology, and since 2006 as manager of a clinical pharmacology research unit.
